Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
The Lymphatic System is essentially a drainage and transport system made up of a network of lymphatic vessels, interspersed with lymph nodes, which help fight infection in the body and remove excess fluid from the tissues.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is an advanced therapy in which the therapist uses gentle pumping strokes with the skin to gently stimulate the lymphatic system and reduce swelling and eliminate waste products.
It was developed by Dr Emil Vodder in the 1930s in Paris to specifically treat the Lymphatic system. MLD also has a calming, relaxing effect, improving your sense of wellbeing and it may boost the body's immunity. MLD should never be painful and can be used soon after an injury as it is so gentle. It is recommended by surgeons to aide healing and help resolve swelling and bruising following cosmetic surgery.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) can also be helpful for many conditions including:
Lymphoedema: Primary and Secondary (see CDT)
Lipoedema
Vaser liposuction - as early as 24 hours after treatment
Swelling and bruising after plastic surgery
Chronic sinusitis
